(a)RTOY

Bright and rich expressionist style painting depicting three friends playing pool in a bar. The blonde on the left is about to shoot the cue ball. There are many frames on the walls and a dart machine in the background, with a large overhead light

My art is informed by the seemingly dichotomous states of my nervous system—urgency and stillness—and my attempt to lessen the divide between them. I aim to highlight memory and humanity by adding a tinge of the surreal. This results in rich oil colors and chaotic brush strokes illuminating intimate scenes, often including figures and their shadows.

I primarily work in oil paint (often over a gouache base) and watercolor, but will employ other tools for multi-media pieces. I love working with complementary palettes and building up layers of color that can only be properly perceived by the eye.
